Wine information

The Vazart-Coquart Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru comes from a Grand Cru vineyard of eleven hectares in Chouilly. The average age of the Chardonnay vines there is 43 years. The vines are deeply rooted in belemnite chalk. The estate was in conversion to sustainable and organic viticulture. The first certified organic harvest was in 2020, and this cuvée used 65 % from the 2016 harvest, 5 % each from the 2015 and 2014 harvests, and 25 % from a réserve perpétuelle started in 1982, from which 40 % are taken and replenished each year. The base wine was fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and underwent malolactic fermentation. The dégorgement was Champagne in January 2021 with a dosage of 1.5 grams.

Color

Light golden yellow with lively perlage, clearly frothy in the glass, but not on the palate.

Nose

The Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru The bouquet is pleasantly cool and clear with many chalky and chalky components, green to light yellow citrus fruit and pithy apple notes including peel. Above this are white blossoms, especially lime blossom, below which is a bed of honey and almond cream on buttered toast, though not formative, but discreet and clearly less pronounced than in the Brut Réserve.

Palate

The palate reveals ripe white-fleshed pome and stone fruit, further grapey notes and the freshness and pressure of limes and lemons with peel and juice. Pressure builds up here, and the chalky minerality does its part to make the Champagne fresh and lively. The perlage vibrates finely. The Réservewein delivers an elegant base of autolysis notes, which, however, as already in the fragrance, are restrained and, as it were, only the appropriate point on the i deliver.
