Info

Konstantin Weiser and Alexandra Künstler run this small, 4ha winery organically. Next to Clemens Busch, the two of them form the Sperrspitze in this area. A large part of the steep slopes is in single-pole cultivation and thus very time-consuming to work. Blue slate forms the base in the vineyards in Trarbach and Enkirch. Grape quality is the top priority for both of them. They attach importance to moderate Oechsle values and a crisp acid structure. The fermentation takes place spontaneously to 100%. The dry qualities are traditionally vinified in barrels. With the residual sweet and noble sweet wines Inox comes into play. Oxidation plays a controlled role during the vinification in order to bring out the minerality. The wines should never be fruit-oriented. The maturation on the yeast is untypically long for the region. However, from my point of view, this has a noticeably positive effect on the mouthfeel. Konstantin Weiser has also made it his business to work out the individual predicates with noticeable differences, because the transitions are often fluid.

The orientation of the cabinets tends to be light and lean at Weiser-Künstler. The harvest is green to green-yellow. Yellow grapes are selected here in order to maintain the tension. The Kabinett should not be too concentrated in fruit and should be vibrant in the glass.

For some years now, Kabinett has been oscillating between a substitute for the gin and tonic in the bar or as a serious long-distance runner with maturation potential. The possibilities seem almost unlimited. I particularly appreciate the play of sweetness and acidity. If this sensory is complemented by a haptic impression that suggests lime or slate, you're just happy.

Pale greenish yellow, light reflections

Nose

Enkircher Ellergrub Kabinett presents itself a bit calmer and more grown-up than the playful Trarbacher Schlossberg Kabinett from the same 2019 vintage. On the nose, floral notes like lilac. White peach, ripe pear and a little ginger. Of course, the slate soil and spontaneous fermentation come into their own perfectly.

Palate

On the palate, it shines with its light-footedness and elegance. An absolute haven of peace somewhere between delicate Riesling fruit and minerality. Pure purity. A little like cold, clear water. The balance is close to perfection.

A slender acid framework forms the basis. The residual sweetness is definitely present, but so delicately integrated. Together, these two flavors form a sensual symbiosis. The sensory impression comes to the fore again and again.

The mouthfeel is clearly marked by the soil. Full of finesse. Cool and slender. And above all, full of dignity and sublime. A great wine that will show a strong evolutionary potential during the maturation.
