Info

The Altrovino cuvée consists of 50% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are located at the Riparbella vineyard at 200 - 220 metres altitude in the Costa Toscana IGP appellation. The vines are 17 years old. Calcareous soil, rich in clay and skeleton. The Merlot was harvested in the first week of September 2018. The Cabernet Franc followed afterwards. Manual harvesting and a first selection is done in the vineyard. Gentle destemming to avoid crushing the berries. A second selection follows on the sorting table. Both vines are fermented spontaneously in cement tanks. The temperature is regulated inside. Pump over follows regularly as well as twenty days of contact with the mash. Parts of the Cabernet Francs ferment in 500l and 600l amphorae to bring out the floral and fruity aromas. This is followed by the blending of the two grape varieties with subsequent maturation in conical oak barrels for a further six months.

Nose

Altrovino is simply a bank. Deep dark nose full of spice. Bitter chocolate, roasted coffee bean and liquorice spread out in the glass. Cassis, blackberry, raspberry and sour cherries are in no way inferior. A pleasant pepper spiciness as well as some anise and clove complement this wonderfully. In the background, the impression of wet stones resonates again and again. This creates a cool impression despite all the force of this wine.

Palate

On the palate, it is very typical of Luca d'Attomo. The dark fruit concentration full of power appears in a silky robe. Mineral, cool accents provide finesse and elegance. The fruit appears as perceived in the nose. It lives from a neat acidity that splits the fruit density again and again. In the finish, it shows a fine herbal note.
