Wine information
The Clos Windsbuhl is located in high vineyards that almost touch the edge of the forest. The terroir is characterised by sedimentary limestone from the secondary period and its late-ripening climate supports the special quality of the wine.
Maturity information
Thanks to the magnesium-rich soil, this wine acquires its characteristic grainy element and produces an acidic tone. This particularity can occasionally lead to a premature end of the fermentation process.
Color
A distinctly dense and slightly cloudy golden yellow.
Flavours
The 2018 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl only develops its full complexity after sufficient aeration in a carafe. At first, there are fewer fruity accents, more notes of almonds, light nuts, wine yeast, fine smoky nuances and light tobacco that dominate the aroma. After longer breathing, however, aromas of pomelo, pink grapefruit and small red apples open up. Attributes such as depth, density and an overflowing minerality characterise this exceptional wine, which already promises great potential on the nose.
On the palate
It is distinctive, incredibly dry and precise with a sophisticated spiciness and a crystalline saltiness that tickles the taste buds and stimulates salivation. Nutty, spicy and yeasty notes are as present as hints of citrus and apple skin. This almost Burgundy-like drop is best enjoyed after a few years in the cellar, where it can develop into a true taste explosion.
Recommendation
Those who cannot resist and would like to open it now should decant it at least one day before and enjoy it not too cold. Large Burgundy glasses are best suited for this.
Food recommendations
A risotto with black truffle would perfectly complement its complexity. A turbot in a manilkraut coat with Riesling onion sauce and caviar is equally excellent. Alternatively, a dish of young partridge on a bed of kale, entwined with smoked ham and a Riesling sauce is recommended.
