The Muscat comes from a selection of our own old vines of white and red grapes of the Muscat d'Alsace variety. It is late ripening with a good acid structure and well adapted to the warm climate. The Turckheimer Muscat is grown exclusively on the rich and deeper part of the alluvial soil of Turckheim, where it is slightly cooler and better able to cope with the summer dry spells. The Muscat needs full physiological ripeness and must therefore not be harvested too early to avoid vegetal aromas.
Color
Rich straw yellow, radiant and clear.
Nose
The 2020 Turckheim Muscat by Zind Humbrecht once again raises the question of why so little Muscat is actually drunk. There is hardly anything more versatile in autumn, when the larder is full and the table is well set. This year, the typical Muscat notes are clearly in the spicy, i.e. nutmeg direction. The grapey Muscat aromas tend to stay in the background. Some shellac, polish, then spicy notes and finally some dried fruit form the framing.
Mouth
Viscous with an almost oily feel, it flows across the palate, fuelled by a piquant acidity that breaks out of formation and brings its baroque splendour into the modern age. Powerful yet taut with a vertical tip, this is certainly not a wine to be enjoyed solo on the sofa, but a grateful curator of autumnal table pleasures.
