Gewürztraminer still occupies the largest part of the cultivated area in Turckheim. The warm and dry climate favours the ripening of this late-ripening diva, which requires a lot of sun and high temperatures before harvesting. The Turckheim Gewurztraminer is a cuvée of the most diverse sites in Turckheim, was not fermented completely dry and thus retained its low residual sweetness.
Color
Old gold with brilliant reflections.
Nose
The 'spice' component is the driving force in this wine. Conversely, this means that rose, lychee and candied orange peel sit out a round in the 2020 Turckheim Gewurztraminer from Zind Humbrecht. Mace, allspice and a little clove set the tone, dried apples and pears keep a low profile. The wine is washed down with orange zest - and that's it!
Mouth
On the nose, it is firm and punchy with an oily feel and more pronounced fruit aromas than on the nose. The orange comes to the fore and is accompanied by some high-proof dark chocolate. The acidity is moderate as usual for a spice and balances the subtle residual sweetness, which fits in well with the canon of spice, fruit and feel. Benchmark for old-school Gewürztraminer in Purezza.
