Information about the wine:
The Zieregg vineyard does not end at the Austrian-Slovenian border, but rather goes beyond it. In 2007, the Tements had the chance to take over the Slovenian part of their house vineyard and to found the Domaine Ciringa, named after the Slovenian name of the Zieregg. 2009 is the first Fosilni breg (Fossil Mountain) arose. The Sauvignon blanc was fermented spontaneously to 1.3 grams of residual sugar with 6.0 grams of acidity and later aged for twelve months in large neutral wooden barrels on the fine lees.

Nose:
The 2018 Fosilni Breg opens quickly and smells quite relaxed and pleasant of yellow pears and ripe gooseberries, grapefruits and lemons. Above this is a hint of lily of the valley and pepper, underneath is grated lime and chalk. The Fosilni breg is fragrant, aromatic and expressive, but by no means loud. It seems oh altogether aromatic and is always a little more yellow and warmer than the Zieregg's from the Austrian side.
Palate:
On the palate the Fosilni breg, the Slovenian Zieregg, a silky and juicy mouthfeel with a tart citrus finish. It's a fruit basket of apples, pears and limes, mirabelles and gooseberries that opens up here. The wine is concentrated, offering light tannin, smoky notes and a bit of burnt rubber. While the wine seems rather round and warm on the front palate, it becomes increasingly taut and acidic towards the finish.
