Scent
The current vintage of Dolcetto d'Alba, from Chiara Boschis & E. Pira & Figli, is freshly bottled and comes across as slightly wild and completely impetuous on the nose. First, aromas of forest undergrowth, leather and damp, dark soil present themselves, before the rich fruit bouquet comes to the fore after extensive breathing. There are hints of sour cherries, blackberries and blackcurrants. Mediterranean herbal nuances such as rosemary, thyme, juniper and wild sage also resonate, underpinning its invigorating, youthful character.
Taste
On the palate, it appears well-formed and fruity. Its acidic structure makes it pleasantly lively and the tannins are smooth and ripe. It tempts you to enjoy a glass or two more - an excellent companion to spicy dishes and Italian cuisine in general.
