Wine

Champagne Tarlant Cuvée Louis

To the wine

The Cuvée Louis is a blend of 50 % Chardonnay and 50 % Pinot Noir from the vineyard Les Crayons (chalk) in the Marne Valley, located near Œuilly. The vines are over 65 years old. The basis is the year 2000 with Réserve wines from the years 1999, 1998, 1997 and 1996. The basic wine ferments in wooden barrels, a malolactic fermentation is renounced with Tarlant in principle. The wine is also aged in wooden barrels for four years. After the filling in 2001, the wine matured until the dégorgement in February 2016. The dosage is 0 grams.

Color

golden yellow with amber reflections; fine, very clear mousseux

Nose

The Cuvée Louis leaves from the first moment little doubt that this is an excellent champagne. The bouquet is very complex, yet pure, clear and marked by great aromatic depth. The cuvée offers the smoky, front notes of new wood and various dimensions of fruit notes: juicy, ripe stone fruit, dried apricots, dates and figs, candied ginger and oranges as well as orange peel, vanilla, butterscotch, toasted almonds and hazelnuts. Although the tyre notes are initially in the foreground, however, the mineral lively note is the more important trait.

Palate

On the palate, the cuvée is expansive and creamy, but also very dry. This results in a beautiful melange of warm, ripe tones and the cool clarity of a zero-dosage champagne. The Cuvée Louis is vinous, lush and shows the slightly reductive smoky notes alongside the fruit. Particularly remarkable, however, is the vibrant liveliness and chalkiness with which the champagne sets the palate vibrating - pure, elegant, with fresh acidity and an impressive precision.
