Tasting note from from 29.09.2022, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Domaine Les Bruyères was founded in 1955 by Georges Reynaud. Until 2002, the grapes were sold to the local cooperative, when grandson David took over the business and turned it completely upside down. He switched to organic and biodynamic farming and banned everything from the cellar that contradicted his idea of an originally produced wine. The farm is located on the banks of the Isère in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation and today covers 20 hectares of vines.

The Crozes-Hermitage George is 100% Syrah with an average age of 20 years. The vinification takes place traditionally in raw concrete tanks. After a maceration of 28 to 32 days, pressing is done with a vertical press at low pressure and the wine is then aged for 12 months on fine lees in sixth and seventh occupancy barrels as well as in concrete tanks.

Color

Ruby red with violet reflections and dark core.

Nose

Extract-rich and concentrated, the 2020 Crozes-Hermitage Georges by David Reynaud smells of black heart cherries, fresh blackberries and the obligatory dark chocolate. In the overtone, shimmering floral notes are reminiscent of violets and lilac, and in the base note there are striking spicy notes of red and black pepper and dark tobacco.

Mouth

The wine's expansive bacchic nose is directly disciplined on the palate Lean with fine extract and athletic figure, it glides across the palate, accelerated by ripe and fine-grained tannins. Open-hearted without a trace of reduction, it shows its juicy taut side, the fruit sparkles ruby red in the extract, framed by radiant bright acidity and velvety tannins. Already tastes great, but will continue to grow over the next few years.
