Tasting note from from 29.09.2022, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Domaine Les Bruyères was founded in 1955 by Georges Reynaud. Until 2002, the grapes were sold to the local cooperative, when his grandson David took over the business and completely turned it around. He switched to organic and biodynamic farming and banned everything from the cellar that contradicted his concept of an originally produced wine. The farm is located on the banks of the Isère in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation and today covers 20 hectares of vines.

The Beaumont grows on clay and limestone terraces from the commune of Beaumont-Monteux and consists of 100% Syrah. The yield is 45hl/ha and the viticulture is done according to Ecocert guidelines. All work in the vineyard is done manually. The grapes are de-stemmed to 100% and fermented and aged in traditional Betion tanks.

Color

Ruby red with violet reflections and dark core.

Nose

The scent of the finest Syrah emanates from the goblet and could come from the textbook for the variety as well as its origin. The cool fruit is restrained, small cherries and their stones exude their perfume, balanced by the spicy notes of finest red pepper from Kampot. The maturity of the wine in combination with its cool nature creates this very special magic, which already makes it seem very accessible.

Mouth

The 2021 Beaumont by David Reynaud is a small sensation Such a pure, varietal and straightforward Crozes-Hermitage with such a rich, jovial fruit is extremely rare in this price segment. The tannins are polished and fine, supported by the peppery, distinctive spiciness of the Northern Rhône, the acidity is ripe and broad, yet taut. Aromatically, too, it has everything you could wish for and gives a youthful wine radiance and drinking pleasure.

Food recommendations from Sebastian Bordthäuser

  • Mushroom Wan Tans with Dark Soy Elderberry Butter
  • Mushrooms braised in red wine with thyme and blueberries
  • Saddle of venison with cranberries, Schupfnudeln in poppy seed butter and savoy cabbage a la crème
