Wine information
This Silvaner comes from about 150-year-old vines with real roots, which the Luckerts have re-cultivated in the Sonnenberg vineyard, west of Sulzfeld. Recultivated because the vines, which, of course, only yielded the smallest yields, had partly been cut down by the previous owners. The 2017 Creutz is the fifth vintage of this extraordinary wine, this original Silvaner, whose name is therefore also written on the label in the old spelling. Instead of vinification in a double piece, the Luckerts use a tonneau of 600 liters for this wine, which is used for several years.
Color
medium straw yellow
Nose
This wine is a monument to which one should only engage with full attention. It is not loud, it is quiet and therefore all the more emphatic. It needs air as well as time and is naturally only at the beginning of a long development. The Creutz always oscillates olfactorically between a fine yellow fruit of Reineclauden and Mirabellen, old, partly mellow Mostbirnensorten, white and yellow flowers as well as notes of turmeric, blond tobacco, dry loam, damp lime and a little warm puff pastry.
Palate
On the palate the Creutz The wine has an impressive tension. The ripe yellow core and stone fruit of the quite warm Sonnenberg site is confronted with clear phenolic, with the already in the nose concise spice as well as with the deep underground minerality and brilliant acid structure. It achieves what only great wines can do. Creutz seems firmly attached to the earth and floating at the same time. It is aware of its immense power and depth and yet swirls juicy and creamy through the mouth. He pulls this through clearly and precisely until the long finale - that is already impressive.
