The Klur family has been producing wine in Katzenthal, Alsace, since the 17th century. The farm decided to downsize in 2007 and since then has focused on biodynamic cultivation. Today, Clemt Klur is the smallest certified Demeter winery in Alsace.

The Cremant d'Alsace Sans Soufre is a cuvée of Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. Grown at the foot of the commune of Katzenthal on marl and limestone soils, the grapes are harvested by hand and then gently pneumatically pressed, stem and all, for six hours. The wine is neither chaptalised nor acidified, and is fermented spontaneously with its own yeasts in temperature-controlled vats. The base wine then matures in barrels on the fine yeast until it is bottled. The wine remains on the yeast for at least 12 months, and only after degorgement is a small amount of sulphur added.

Color

Light straw yellow with greenish reflections and constant perlage.

Nose

The LCAS20 Cremant d'Alsace by Clement Klur smiles tidily and friendly from the glass. Slightly oxidised, sliced yellow apples, Weckmann with lemon glaze as well as some candied lemon peel and a little sugared grapefruit outline its restrained nose.

Mouth

On the palate, it is juicy with an expansive fruit and joyful character. The mousseux is fine, mouth-filling and animating. The yellow apple is an omnipresent gustatory leitmotif and is tartly contoured on the palate by a delicate, highly animating tannin entry. A Cremant for the aperitif situation as well as for fun or at the table with profound home cooking.
