Tasting note from from 18.08.2020, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser
The grapes for Matthieu Barret's entry-level wine come from the Visan area in the south of the Drôme department. The terroir consists of limestone with deep clay inclusions, which are responsible for the concise fruity expression of the Syrah. Fermented with its own yeasts in concrete, it lay unsulphured on its lees for nine months until it was lightly filtered and given 1mg of sulphur per litre before bottling.

Color

Bright purple red with violet reflections.

Nose

Just as Snoop Dog is no longer doggy, Matthieu Barret's little bear is no longer brown. It's red, like it always was, except when it's white. But then that's what it says. On the nose, the little bear entices with dark fruits like Amarena cherry, blackberries and mulberries, which are complemented with mild spices like black pepper, allspice and light tobacco.

Mouth

On the nose, Matthieu Barret's 2019 Petit Ours is exactly the flatterer that the nose has already announced. The dark, deep fruit is surrounded by velvety tannins that glide over the palate like plush velvet. The fruit always seems fresh and is carried by the fine acid nerve, which certifies lightness and carefree drinking pleasure.
