Out of stock

Beetroot, black pepper and a hint of musk, as well as the harmonious interplay of a domino of marzipan and dark dark chocolate provide even more depth and aromatic richness. Their relationship is close and irrefutable, but due to its smaller, looser berries, Sérine is rather the somewhat finer sister of Syrah and more synonymous with Côte-Rotie.

Color

The wine shows a rich purple colour with a violet rim and an opaque core, clear and shiny in the glass.

This wine is 100% from the Sérine grape. In the great work "Wine Grapes" by Robinson/Harding/Vouillamoz, this is listed as a synonym of Syrah. Their relationship is close and irrefutable, but due to its smaller, looser berries, Sérine is rather the somewhat finer sister of Syrah and rather synonymous with Côte-Rotie.

Nose

In the nose at first restrained and fragrant, floral notes are given priority. Dark roses, hibiscus and clove blossoms are closely followed by spicy aromas of turmeric, Earl Grey and liquorice. Beetroot, black pepper and a touch of musk, as well as the harmonious interplay of a domino of marzipan and dark dark chocolate provide even more depth and aromatic richness.

Palate

For all its power, the 2017 Côte-Rotie "Coteaux de Tupin" from Maison Stephan stands out above all for its straightforwardness. As soon as it hits the palate, the cloves assert themselves and the wallflower changes into a taut leather robe. A discreetly rugged, "cool" tannin and a powerful driving acidity are determined and unwavering to guarantee this honest wine unadulterated drinking pleasure in the long term.

Food recommendations from Peter Müller

  • Grilled sheep cheese with chestnuts, mustard seeds and chard
  • Braised oxtail with parsnips, beech mushrooms and quinoa
  • Angus burger with grilled beetroot, fried egg, crispy fries and chilli mayonnaise
