Color

In crystalline gold with subtle white-gold reflections, the wine appears clear and shiny in the glass.

Nose

On the nose, this Corton Grand Cru is initially restrained and is happy to spend two hours in the carafe before giving itself over. Besides yellow-fleshed fruit, its essence is mainly herbaceous and takes the nose by the hand for an extended walk across flowering spring meadows. Red clover, sorrel and lemon balm, as well as thistles and the syrup of yarrow flowers combine to create a beguiling fragrance. Citrus freshness of kumquats and ginger, as well as fine spicy depth of oat flakes, grated hazelnut and shortbread complete the picture, without seeming buttery.

Palate

On the palate, the 2016 Corton Grand Cru from Chandon de Briailles carefully creates a drinkable equivalent to a "greater than" sign. Fine tannins transform into unobtrusive fullness with spirited freshness. Its body is defined and precisely balanced down to the last piece of the puzzle, no matter how small. Accurate, chiselled acidity paves the way to crystalline greatness and is characterised by a never-ending finish reminiscent of liquorice.

Buy it. Put Away. Drink with delicate frequency.
