Wine details
Highly regarded and nestled in the heart of the Corton hillside, the Grand Cru vineyard of Les Bressandes is full of character and history. With its close proximity to the excellent Clos du Roi and the coveted Renardes vineyards, it shares the prestigious distinction of being the top agreement in Corton. The 1.12 hectares are spread over four plots, with its soil rich in iron due to limestone from the Bajocian and Oxford periods, mixed with pebbles and clay. With an average vine age of 35 years, the Corton-Bressandes wine brings out deep complexity and character. Vinification is partially whole cluster in barrels before being gravity fed into barriques and tonneaux with limited new wood. After about 14 months of rest, the wine is bottled with only a small amount of sulphur, often directly from the barrel.

Visual
A noble, slightly transparent garnet red.

Bouquet
The bouquet of the 2018 vintage of Corton-Bressand awakens sensual aromas by bringing out dark fruit notes, earthy undertones and forest floor. Blackberries, plums, dark raspberries, bird cherries and peonies vie for attention, enhanced by aromas of smoke, bacon fat, moss and wood. Complemented by the scent of dry earth, fresh juicy blood oranges, lime and a pinch of salt, a unique and complex fragrance profile develops.

Taste
On the palate, the Grand Cru unfolds its fullness and power, yet remains elegant and complex, true signs of its fine origins. The Corton-Bressandes is a Pinot noir, dense and rich with core aromas of dark, ripe fruit, spice from the limestone and wood, flanked by lightly fleshy notes, plenty of forest floor and a distinct, supple and fine-grained tannin structure and lively acidity. The wine fills the palate fully, always remaining finely structured and showing impressive tension and mineral liveliness.

Food recommendations
Popular with matured duck breast with ratatouille and chorizo, caramelised lamb ribs or a baked dish of quinoa with courgette, aubergine, onions and Comté cheese. An excellent alternative is wild boar ragout, porcini mushroom risotto or Roquefort cheese.
