Color

In slightly translucent purple with garnet rim and violet core, the wine appears clear and shiny in the glass.

Nose

Next to tart cranberry and lively sour cherry, this Grand Cru is waiting in front of the oven at home. Waiting for a plum tart with a shortcrust base with toasted hazelnut semolina and butter crumble that slowly begins to caramelise.

This rounded affair gets lace and spicy support from fragrant notes of hayseed, fennel seed and ribwort, plus the power of green pepper and a fiery gazpacho.

Palate

On the palate, the 2016 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru from Chandon de Briailles immediately reveals its bespoke structure. The clarity and delicacy of its purist red fruit is initially revealed as a silhouette wrapped in a silky cloak and demands time, air and patience. Fine spiciness is effortlessly carried by grippy tannins that act essentially in the background and, from the starting holes, snapping fingers, acidity that suggests length looking towards the horizon.
