Color
Deep purple with violet reflections and black core.
Nose
The 2015 Gore Cornas from Matthieu Barret of Domaine du Coutet has a lavish nose of black Amarena cherries and black chocolate opening the opulent round, closely followed by dark, spicy aromas of dried meat, black pepper and leather. Cassis, blackberry jelly as well as wet slate complete the picture.
Mouth
On the palate the surprise follows. Not opulent, rich and baroque, but fresh and drinkable the Cornas comes along. Finest Syrah carried by transparent sour cherry fruit, the acid arc long curved with space for the minerality, which gives it additional freshness. Aromatically, the pendulum swings between fruit and mild spice, one can't decide and pours again and again. A wonderful wine from the world of Cornas.
