Wine information
The Clos de la Cure is a new Chenin Blanc in the winery's portfolio. It comes from a very loamy and north-facing 0.4 hectare plot with white limestone in the subsoil. After late harvesting and whole cluster pressing, the Chenin Blanc was spontaneously fermented, underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged on its lees for eleven months in a 1,000-litre earthenware vessel.
Color
Golden yellow
Nose
Like all white Chinons from the Château de Coulaine, the Clos de la Cure decidedly classic. This is old-school Chenin Blanc, harvested late, full and ripe, but without any botrytis. It smells like a whole orchard of yellow fruit pears, quinces, yellow apples, apricots, nectarines and kumquats. There is also some ginger, liquorice and also a few peels of apples and pears.
Palate
On the palate, the Chenin Blanc shows all its power and fullness, unfolding its impressive variety of yellow fruit along with plenty of spice and a comforting warmth. This is a powerful wine that finds its place with a hearty meal and whose warmth is balanced by a fine minerality and freshness. The long finish also reveals a slight saltiness and a nuttiness that make the wine even more complex.
