Info about the wine
The red slate Riesling comes predominantly from the "Rothenpfad" parcel. The soil here is very light and consists mainly of very soft, weathered red clay slate. However, some of the grapes also come from the Nonnengarten site, which lies to the west below the Marienburg. Here the soil is also red, but is more marbled and clearly heavier. The wines from this area are always a little more earthy and crisp. These two types complement each other perfectly and have therefore formed the basis for the Riesling from the red slate since the 2003 vintage.
Color
Strong, sparkling golden yellow.
Nose
The 2014 Riesling "vom roten Schiefer" presents itself with intense aromas of ripe vineyard peach, orange, red apples and honey. The whole is accompanied by aromas reminiscent of elder pulp and acacia, an earthy depth and smoky notes. Subtle hints of spices such as cardamom, star anise and saffron can also be detected. A beautiful and multi-layered drop announces itself.
Palate
Full-bodied with earthy and spicy aromas, it is perceived on the palate. The acidity is extremely invigorating, precise and fresh, it is very well embedded in the fruit and the creamy character of the wine. The spicy notes call for accompaniment of spicy food. A wonderful drop that is only at the beginning of its maturity and from the magnum is perfect for serving by the glass, private parties or for the great thirst.
