Nose
Clau de Nell is clearly making its mark more and more in terms of Chenin Blanc. The 2019 specimen lives in yellow fruits and pome fruits in great facet. Cream tarts, quince tart, tarte tatin and butterscotch deliver yeasty, doughy and caramelised flavours. Cooked quince and jelly are also noticeable. Behind this, there is some ripe grapefruit and orange. More marked by the tart zest than the sweetness. Mirabelle plum and apricot are in no way inferior in their juicy impression. A little fennel, saffron and curry provide a well-dosed spiciness.
Palate
It opens with a lively dance. In a good balance of fullness, pressure and a skilful lightness, it beguiles the palate. On the one hand, it is densely woven and fills the mouth. In its melting robe, it also exerts a lot of pressure on the palate. On the other hand, it immediately reveals its stony origins. Polished, cool and marked by minerality. This is pure origin. Full of elegance and supported by a pleasantly measured acidity. On the palate, this draws it out so much that the reverberation seems never-ending. The aromas of the nose continue to buzz around for minutes. First and foremost, the first associations of fine pastries.
