Information about the wine
The renowned Riesling vineyard VDP.Erste Lage Reiterpfad towers majestically above Deidesheim on the hillside, a testament to the noble estate of the Prince-Bishop of Speyer, also known as the Lord of Deidesheim and Ruppertsberg. The Reiterpfad stretches strikingly over 60 hectares, forming an extensive terrace with a gentle slope towards the east. This site springs from the thousand-year-old rock deposits of the Haardt Mountains. The quintessence of this vineyard is found in the west-facing Hofstück, which has been classified as a VDP.Grosse Lage since 2014.

The proximity to the mountain and the strategic location of the vineyard ensures ample sunshine, which lasts from the morning hours until sunset. The Reiterpfad vineyard enjoys the privilege of being the warmest vineyard in the Christmann estate, shielded from the winds by the uninterrupted Haardt Mountains.

Processing of the wine
The grapes of the Reiterpfad-Hofstück VDP.Grosses Gewächs are carefully harvested in one or two passes after they are fully ripened and strictly selected. With a low yield rate of only 40 hl/ha, the full depth of flavour is preserved. The cap of the grapes is crushed with the utmost care and then gently and slowly pressed. Under purely natural conditions, the wine matures, unfined and untreated, on the lees and fine yeast in stainless steel and large classic wooden barrels.

Wine colour
A bright golden yellow with green speckles shines in the light.

Bouquet
The youthful 2020 Ruppertsberger Reiterpfad Riesling 1 G Riesling VDP.Erste Lage is initially reserved. But with sufficient exposure to oxygen, it reveals itself, citrus, green apple and elderflower emerge through the dense linkage of terroir notes. Subtle exotic notes of ginger and coriander also sniff through.

Taste
Fine notes of tartness emerge on the palate, reminiscent of grapefruit, accompanied by refreshing acidity. The wine plays a seductive game, dancing on the tongue while presenting itself crystal clear and refreshing. It is an outstanding achievement by Christmann to present this Riesling with such power and concentration, elegant and airy.

For optimal enjoyment when young, we recommend decanting the Riesling beforehand and serving it in a large glass at a moderate temperature.

Food recommendations
- Braised pumpkin lasagne with a pinch of fresh coriander
- Prawn risotto with lemongrass and ginger
- Sage-soaked chicken breast on a bed of roasted root vegetables.
