Information about wine
This is the first Great Growth from this once well-known but forgotten site above Neustadt an der Weinstraße. The vineyard came to the Christmanns in 2017 after years of conventional cultivation. The conversion to biodynamics followed immediately. For several years, the wine was VDP.local wine under the name Neustadt V. bottled. The soil consists of shell limestone formed more than 200 million years ago. The vineyard slopes quite steeply to the south with a gradient of up to 50 % and is up to 260 metres high. The yields here are only 40 hl/ha, so that the grapes can reach an optimal fullness of flavour. The grapes were harvested on 15.9.2020. The whole clusters were crushed and then slowly pressed after a maceration period of one to two hours. After spontaneous fermentation - which lasted until 26.11.2020 - the wine matured on yeast and fine lees in large classic wooden barrels until bottling. It was bottled in July 2021.

Nose
The 2020s Vogelsang appears fresh and energetic, but also dark, almost oily and spicy with a little yellow fruit and tart citrus aromas along with lemon zest, nuts and herbs.
Palate
On the palate, the Great Growth Very fresh and clear, powerful and present, almost austere, cool, wiry, demanding, nutty and slightly tobacco, with lots of stone, some earth and a long, salty finish. What an excellent debut!
