About the wine
Domaine de Villeneuve has 8.4 hectares in the north of the Châteauf-du-Pape appellation, not far from Château de Beaucastel. The biodynamically cultivated vines are between 30 and more than 100 years old. 70 % Grenache are used here, as well as 16 % Mourvèdre and 8 % Syrah, 4 % Cinsault and 2 % Clairette. The grapes were completely destemmed. The wine was fermented in cement tanks. It matured for 18 months in barrels, demi-muids and used barriques.

Nose
The 2015 vieilles vignes quickly evolves into one of the Domaine's most impressive vintages with a little air. A fresh and ripe dark fruit meets here a mineral lively foundation and top notes of violets and Indian spices. All of this harmonises wonderfully on the nose, and although Grenache plays the leading role here with 70 %, the spice of the Syrah and Mourvèdre is very present.
Mouth
The deep minerality, which one already feels in the fragrance, becomes supporting on the palate and provides liveliness and an additional dimension of freshness as well as complexity. The fruit is fresh and juicy, dark and ripe with a sweet fruit core. The spice notes have emerged particularly nicely, interweaving with the deep fruit. The silky texture is a perfect match for the powerful, muscular body of this Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
