Wine information
At La Nerthe, the white varieties have been planted in different soils - calcareous and sandy loam soils as well as sandstone soils, all littered with rolled pebbles. They sought the proximity of the estate's natural spring, which is rare in the region. The hand-picked grapes are selected. After the slow pressing of the whole grapes, the must of the Roussanne is fermented in 228- and 600-litre barrels, a third of which is new, where it is matured on the fine lees. The other three varieties are fermented in stainless steel and also left on the fine lees. The blend takes place just before bottling and in 2020 combined 47% Roussanne, 38% Grenache Blanc, 13% Clairette and 2% Bourboulenc.
Color
Bright luminous gold with a slight green shimmer
Nose
Charming complexity. The aromas of white and yellow flowers are followed by subtle toasted, nutty and almond notes, then the intense pear and peach fruit dominates with an accent of fennel - typical of the Clairette.
Palate
Right at the beginning, pleasant freshness and fine tension surprise in the mouth. They combine with a creamy texture, discreet spice and yellow juicy fruit. Very balanced, long-lasting and elegant, the white La Nerthe impresses with its presence and provides an excellent example of the special nature of white Châteauneuf-du-Papes. The 2020 vintage, with its accentuated freshness and fruit, adds to its charm.
