Color:
Muted garnet red with clear violet reflections, almost dense in colour to the rim.
Nose:
This 2018 Châteuneuf du Pape Rouge Clos des Papes is a revelation on the nose: prune, raspberry, blackberry and cassis accompanied by violet, mint and sandalwood. With a little oxygen contact, cocoa, black olives and liquorice join in. A beguiling, opulent red beauty in liquid form.
Palate:
On the tongue, one feels the grip and the pull of the pronounced minerality of Châteuneuf du Pape. Acidity and tannin still seem youthful and pleasantly demanding and are perfectly integrated into the dark berry, charming, slightly sweetish fruit. The long finish reminds of clove and noble bitter chocolate.
Decant before drinking if possible and enjoy from a bulbous glass.
