Nose
Paul-Vincent Avril was able to harvest just 15 hectolitres per hectare in 2017. This resulted in an extremely concentrated Châteauneuf that needs air, lots of air, to fully develop. And yet, from the very first moment, it seems quite present. With the necessary oxygen, the 2017 becomes a giant, as it were, offering its aromas of cherry liqueur, black cherries, blueberries and blackberries as well as the whole palette of southern French herbs, pepper and ground stone lavishly and with great passion.
Mouth
Juicy and concentrated, the wine also presents itself on the palate. Of course, the rich, nonchalant fruit, the herbal spiciness and the stoniness are also found here. However, there is also an impressive, almost Burgundian elegance, which one would hardly expect from such a powerhouse. But this is how they are, the wines of Paul-Vincent Avril classically vinified in old barrels, elegant and worthy of aging.
