Wine information

The Chassagne-Montrachet Village comes from the parcel Les Houillères with small portions of En Journoblot and declassified 1er Crus. Les Houillères was planted in 1989 with a Sélection massale. The parcel ripens very early and accordingly is almost always the first to be harvested. The soils are shallow and deep, composed of a red clay-limestone mixture. They are an extension of the famous Les Enceignères site on the back of the hill. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally and the wine remains on its lees without any bâtonnage. The new wood content is around 20 %. Sulphur is only added in the last six months in the barrel, and several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l in total.

Nose

Thomas Moreys Chassagne-Montrachet 2019 is a fruit-driven, bright and open Chardonnay that shows quite a lot of bright pome and stone fruit and becomes more precise and radiant with air. This then reveals distinct notes of citrus and stone, grapefruit rub and herbs. Here less reduction is found than in the Bourgogne Chardonnay and less creamy-silky than in the Saint-Aubin. The Chassagne-Montrachet is more in the middle.

Palate

On the palate the Chassagne-Montrachet a crystal clear, very pure and fine fruit image of bright fruit, but directly framed by a lively acidity, citrus notes, herbs and a little juniper. The wine presents itself very linear with a pleasant bite and a fine minerality. On the palate, it is much less fruity than on the nose and shows more of its cool side. The texture seems silky and fine, but at the same time offers a good grip.
