Wine information

The Chassagne-Montrachet Village comes from the parcel Les Houillères with small portions of En Journoblot and declassified 1er Crus. Les Houillères was planted in 1989 with a Sélection massale. The parcel ripens very early and accordingly is almost always the first to be harvested. The soils are shallow and deep, composed of a red clay-limestone mixture. They are an extension of the famous Les Enceignères site on the back of the hill. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally and the wine remains on its lees without any bâtonnage. The new wood content is around 20 %. Sulphur is only added in the last six months in the barrel, and several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l in total.

medium straw yellow

Nose

Thomas Moreys Chassagne-Montrachet 2020 presents itself brighter, somewhat more citrusy, chalkier than the previous vintage. The bouquet is reminiscent of green and yellow plums, Meyer lemons, green pears, white flowers and herbs. In addition, there is a hint, but really only a hint of reduction and furthermore ripe blanched almonds.

Palate

On the palate the Chassagne-Montrachet Immensely elegant, silky and slightly nutty with white as well as yellow fleshy fruit, some citrus and herbs. The wine appears ripe and round, the texture silky and fine, but at the same time has a good grip. For a local wine, it offers a lot of nobility and a nice depth, but proves to be immensely drinkable in its combination of silkiness, freshness, fine minerality and nuttiness. This is a very balanced, harmonious local wine and, incidentally, at Jasper Morris MW the Coup de Coeur from Thomas Morey's collection.
