Charles Joguet

The Charles Joguet winery is a renowned wine producer in the Loire Valley, France. It was founded in 1957 by Charles Joguet and is now run by winemaker Kevin Fontaine. The estate comprises 36 hectares of vineyards, mainly in the Chinon appellation, with some additional parcels in Azay-le-Rideau.

The vineyards are farmed using sustainable agricultural methods and the estate is committed to reducing its environmental impact. The estate produces a range of wines, with a focus on the Cabernet Franc grape variety, which is particularly well suited to the cool climate of the Loire Valley.

The flagship of the winery is the Charles Joguet Clos de la Dioterie, made from grapes from a single vineyard that is over 60 years old. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in oak barrels for 18 months. It is a full-bodied wine with complex aromas and flavours of dark fruits, spices and earthy notes.

Other notable wines from the Charles Joguet estate include Les Varennes du Grand Clos, made from grapes grown on a soil of limestone and clay that gives the wine a distinct minerality, and Les Petites Roches, a lighter, fruitier wine aged in stainless steel tanks.

The Charles Joguet winery has received numerous awards for its wines, including high ratings from respected wine critics such as Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson. The winery's commitment to quality and sustainability has also earned it a place in the prestigious group of wineries known as the Renaissance of Appellation, which promotes biodynamic farming and natural winemaking practices.
