- In 1989, when we had to decide to replant the south side of this Clos located near the forest, we chose the Chardonnay grape, with the clear intention of producing a still wine that could be blended with the Auxerrois grape. White peach and apple give it almost the character of a complex Riesling, but after a longer opening, the fruity first impression is complemented by a Burgundian note, with almonds, yeast, aniseed, mushrooms and delicate vegetable hints of celery.

Olivier Humbrecht

In 1989, when we had to decide to replant the south side of this Clos located near the forest, we chose the Chardonnay grape, with the clear intention of producing a still wine that could be blended with the Auxerrois grape. The cooler climate and the rocky limestone, rich in magnesium , were ideal for the Chardonnay. We were also looking for a higher acidity in the context of global warming. With this grape, all our expectations were met. Unfortunately, the Chardonnay is only allowed for sparkling wines in Alsace, so we only market it as Vin de Table.

Info about the expansion

2016 ended with a generous harvest of beautiful and very healthy grapes, which after the usual slow fermentation resulted in a completely dry wine.

Color

Intense, sparkling golden yellow with delicate green reflections.

Nose

The 2016 Zind is fresh and animating on the nose, clearly marked by a compact and finely chiselled minerality. White peach and apple give it almost the character of a complex Riesling, but after a longer opening, the fruity first impression is complemented by a Burgundian note, with almonds, yeast, anise, mushrooms and delicate vegetable hints of celery.

Palate

Chardonnay in Alsace - a rogue who thinks evil of it. Juicy and animating to drink, it glides over the tongue with a creamy structure, delicate acidity and a salty note. A real all-rounder, which can be combined with the most different dishes in an incredibly versatile way.
