Wine information
For Jean-Louis Trapet, the 2005 vintage was characterized by peace, strength and harmony. January was already dry and sunny and was the harbinger of a sunny year. Despite the sun, however, it was so cold that pruning was interrupted in February. The first small buds only appeared at the end of April. Then nature exploded within a few hot days, only to be steered back into more moderate territory by cool weather. At the end of May it was hot again, flowering lasted until 6 June, the vines were healthy and strong, the summer was warm and dry, but this did not bother the biodynamically cultivated vines. The harvest from the 18th of September also took place in beautiful weather, 40 % whole bunches were fermented. For Trapet, this vintage perfectly represents the respective terroir.
Color
medium cherry-red
Nose
Already in the bouquet you have a textbook Chamberbertin with dark fruit of cherries and wild berries, which combine with espresso, spice and bacon. This is underpinned with fine wood, undergrowth and a clear presence of cool minerality.
Palate
The 2005 Chambertin grand cru seems still very young and needs a lot of air to show itself in all its dark splendor and power. But then this is a wow! wine. The tannin is silky, the ripe acidity is taut, the bubbling fruit is dark, the notes of bacon and forest floor are spicy, and the arc that this compact and taut wine draws from the first moment of tasting to the long finish is unbelievably long. The wine is, it seems, still at the very beginning of its development, which should take decades. But it is already absolutely impressive.
