The Cabernet Franc comes from the vineyard "dell'Asina", the "Donkey Vineyard" of clayey soils interspersed with slate and Palombino limestone. Grown at 500 metres above sea level, the grapes were harvested by hand at the beginning of September and fermented spontaneously with 15% whole clusters in concrete tanks before the wine was released after a further 30 months of ageing.
Color
Purple red with violet reflections and black core.
Nose
Exalted and downright cheeky, the 2020 Cabernet franc from Ampeleia jumps out of the glass and masters the balancing act between rich ripe fruit and dark spices. Black cherries, blackberries and mulberries dress it in dark red velvet, joined by tart components such as elderberry or cranberry. Black cardamom and pepper fill its spice drawer along with some incense in the top note.
Mouth
Juicy and tart with juvenile impetuosity and a fresh core, it shows itself on the palate. The aromas of the nose are accurately reflected on the palate and are disciplined by the ripe acidity and leafy tannins that give it its fast drinking character. With a fruity extract, a tartly contoured entry and a fine menthol note in the finish, it flows straight to its intended purpose as a refreshment to accompany daily fare or for the sheer fun of it.
