Information

The fruit of this Brunello di Montalcino comes from the 0.7 hectare Vigna del Teatro, located at 500 metres above sea level. As the name suggests, the vineyard, planted in 1994, opens out towards the south like an amphitheatre. The soil is sandy and clayey with skeletal deposits in very fine pebbles, but mainly in large chunks of limestone and calcareous marl. The Sangiovese was harvested at 21 hl/ha. The berries were fermented spontaneously at up to 28 °C and then gently pressed. The wine was aged for three years in barrels of ten and 20 hl. It was then bottled unfiltered and stored in the bottle for another twelve months.

Nose

Salicutti's Teatro 2016 is the Primus inter pares among the three crus of the house. It also needs by far the most time. To this day, it seems closed and should be given plenty of time and air to open up. Then an elegant and finely woven scent of violets and dried rose petals, ripe black cherries, pickled and also dried cherries, leather, tobacco, some cloves and wood smoke emerges. On top are ethereal notes of mint and bergamot.

Palate

On the palate the Teatro Brunello di Montalcino enormously elegant. The red and dark fruit of cherries, wild strawberries and red plums is wrapped in cloth of the finest tannin, as if Ermenegildo Zegna himself had taken the measure. Everything about this Brunello appears pure and at the same time generous, intense and complex. The fruit and the tannin combine tightly and indissolubly, the wine is permeated by a ripe, clear acidity and by waves of herbs, spices and mineral components. All this becomes apparent after a long time in the decanter, where the wine can reveal its sensual side after hours. But actually the Teatro a wine that you should put away and first of all erase from your short-term memory without, however, forgetting it.
