Tasting note from from 26.01.2022, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

Just one year after taking over the family-owned winery "La Soufrandière", the Bret brothers started their second project "Bret Brothers" in 2001. With the aim of being able to offer a wide range of selected terroir wines from southern Burgundy and Beaujolais, they buy in grapes from friendly winegrowers with small microplots and as old vines as possible, who work according to the same strict quality guidelines as the brothers do in their own vineyards. The wines are prepared with the same passion and care as those of "La Soufrandiere" and are matured in their own cellar.

The Brouilly was vinified according to the ZEN method. The wines of this line are vinified without the addition of sulphur until bottling, when they receive a small dose of SO2, not exceeding 20mg, which again sets them apart from the regular collection of La Soufrandière and the Bret Bros. wines.

The plot for this wine is only 0.7 hectares in size, has clay and limestone soils and an eastern exposure at 220 metres above sea level. The grapes were destemmed, fermented spontaneously and aged for 10 months in used barrels before being bottled unfined and unfiltered after the addition of only 10mg SO2.

Color

Ruby red with a dark core and violet reflections.

Nose

The 2020 Brouilly Beaujolais Cru of the Bret Brothers combines red and yellow fruits on the nose, strawberries and fully ripe plums mingle with peach pits and banana bread along with mild spices such as cloves, allspice and cassia. Underneath, long pepper, dried fruit and mild marc notes slumber, keeping the aromatic conglomerate of this animatingly fresh Brouilly in ethereal suspension.

Mouth

On the palate, delicate, almost dance-like with silky tannins and transparent fruit. The ripe, long curved acidity sets its gustatory sail. A lively and almost weightless Brouilly that combines its uncomplicated nature with great drinking pleasure. Perfect partner for everyday cooking or as a joyful drink for any occasion.
