Color
The wine shows itself in a bright, slightly translucent garnet red, clear and shiny in the glass.
Nose
Fragrant and seemingly detached from heaviness, with just a faint hint of smoky spice, this particular Bourgogne Rouge casts its sensory shadow ahead. Wild cherry and blood orange, as well as rosehip and cranberries in their freshest form are spiced up by red pepper, roasted cedar nuts and a hint of juniper ham and a finely sliced beef tartare. The latter is only flamed once very briefly with the Bunsen burner and off you go.
Palate
Velvety, soft, yet full of expression, the 2018 Clos de la Perrière Monopole from Clos du Moulin aux Moines shows on the palate. The volume control is not turned up, but the sound quality is outstanding.
Silky tannins line the palate, which is simultaneously tickled by invigorating acidity and animated to take the next sip. Its radiant red berry fruit and youthfulness make it very juicy with all the demanding stateliness that is otherwise inherent in it.
Doing it justice to its white counterpart, this is very much honest Burgundy in a glass for a small purse.
