Nose
2020 Les Vaux from Domaine Rougeot is beguiling and inviting. Violets and elderberries are the strong accents on the nose. These are supported by pansies and hibiscus. Raspberry, sour cherry, black cherry as well as blackberry are added on the fruity side. It seems grown-up and floats above things. Cardamom and clove add delicate spicy nuances. It always seems cool, but very harmoniously balanced.
Palate
On the palate, it presents itself as polished, fine and elegant as silk. Taut and smooth, yet robust and structured. The fruit is perfectly balanced between animating intensity and tart, slightly bitter contrasts. The combination of sweetness and bitterness is a well-known classic and works perfectly here, too. Loud and yet quiet. Highly aromatic and, for all its intensity, absolutely exciting on the palate. Full of finesse, intensity and diversity. Alternates between dark and light nuances. Cold and warm. Very versatile and absolutely exciting to discover.
