Wine information
The Bourgogne Chardonnay comes from two parcels located in Chassagne-Montrachet. The first parcel, planted in 1989 with a sélection massale of old vines from the estate, is on shallow soils with brown clay. The second, planted in 2004 with a clonal selection, is on gently sloping very stony soils in the »Les Pierres« site. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank. Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally and the wine remains on its lees without any bâtonnage. The new wood content is around 20 %. Sulphur is only added in the last six months in the barrel, and several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l in total.

Nose
Thomas Moreys Bourgogne Chardonnay provides a wonderful introduction to the winemaker's portfolio. It is exactly the business card you want from such a winery. Chassagne-Montrachet plays the leading role at Morey, and so it is in the Bourgogne Chardonnay. The 2020 vintage plays with maturity and freshness, opening with a fine use of wood and a freshly burnt match, showing yellow juiciness of limes, lemons, apricots and yellow pears, some lightly toasted almonds, nuts and a cool draw. All of this goes together beautifully.
Palate
On the palate the Chardonnay a wonderful silkiness and at the same time an audacious smokiness. The yellow fruit flashes again, especially the citrusy fresh and tart notes, plus a little pineapple, brown butter, some popcorn as well as the use of wood, which is quite obvious with Morey, but always fine. The silky texture is accompanied by a structure-giving acidity, a present minerality and tart notes in the finish. It is precisely there that the Burgundy blanc Fresh and punchy, showing once again the green-ripe notes and some salt. The bottle is quickly emptied.
