Wine information

The Blaufränkisch grapes come from vineyards in and around Jois am Leithagebirge that are characterized by limestone and slate. The grapes were harvested in mid to late September. After hand harvesting and sorting, the Blaufränkisch was fermented spontaneously in wooden fermentation racks and, after slow pressing in a basket press, aged in used Tonneaux until August 2019. The first bottling took place on 22 August 2019.

Ruby red with purple highlights

Nose

In the nose opens the 2018 Blaufränkisch Lime and slate with notes of crisp partly sweet, partly sour cherries and with a breath of sloes and cranberries. The fruit is accompanied by tart and earthy notes like beetroot, tree bark and undergrowth. The wine seems elegant, almost cool for this hot year, mineral and fine.

Palate

Also on the palate this wine shows its mineral fresh and cool side with a lively acidity and a remarkable inner tension. Here, too, the earthy and slightly tart is found with a crumbly tannin and a cherry-accented ripe and present fruit on the finish. This comes across as fresh, precise and clear. Notes of wood are hardly found.
