The Tenuta di Castellaro is located on a plateau on Lipari, the largest Aeolian island north of Sicily. The temperate, windy climate and the influence of the sea characterise the microclimate of the Piana di Castellaro, which benefits from the strong temperature amplitudes between day and night. The volcanic soils are rich in minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium, giving the wines their particular texture, structure and longevity. The vines are in single-pole training with 7000 cane density.
The Bianco Pomice is a cuvée of 60% Malvasia delle Lipari and 40% Carricante. Hand-picked, the Malvasia was fermented in steel and the Carricante in used barrels and aged on the lees for six months.
Color
Strong straw yellow, radiant and clear.
Nose
The fragrance of the 2021 Bianco Pomice from the Tenuta di Castellaro immediately transports you to a Mediterranean harbour amidst white sailing yachts, the sound of glasses, laughter, white jackets and beautiful people. With sparse fruit, it is reminiscent of citrus fruits, orange blossom, green mandarins and almonds as well as Mediterranean maquis, all sublimely summed up by the salty scent of a warm sea breeze. Sicily in a glass, that is how one could summarise the white bestseller of the house with profound minerality.
Mouth
Super juicy on the nose, it oscillates between reduced fruit, Mediterranean maquis and salty notes and refreshes with tart tannin and vertical structure. Straightforward and grippy on the nose, this wine is more of a structural and haptic concept than a populist applause. Gripping on the palate with high-resolution aromatics to the flavourful Sicilian fare with an emphasis on maritime proteins.
