Out of stock

The soil is very chalky and poor with little humus on the surface. On the palate, too, the Vignes Franches shows the freshness that is already so obvious in the bouquet, which here comes not only from the juicy and slightly acidic fruit, but not least from the minerality of the barren, stony and chalky soil.

Wine information

For this wine, Boris Champy used Pinot Noir from the Clos des Anges in the 1er Cru site Vignes Franches. The vineyard is located in Beaune just before Pommard and north of Clos des Mouches. The soil is very chalky and poor with little humus in the surface. The vines have to go deep into the ground, but fortunately they are also old. The 0.21 hectares are surrounded by a dry stone wall. The cane density is around 10,000 in Guyot training. Boris Champy uses a few whole bunches in the fermentation in wooden fermentation racks. The wine is exclusively aged in pièces of the Eric Millard tonneau winery over the course of twelve months.

Nose

Boris Champys Beaune 1er Cru Vignes Franches 2019 offers a very fine expression of a Beaune 1er Cru. This is mainly due to the wood used, but also to the perfect harvest time. The Pinot Noir appears ripe but fresh and very lively with notes of juicy cherries, raspberries, blackberries and a few plums in combination with warm forest soil, some undergrowth, slightly sweet spicy notes and dark chocolate.

Palate

Also on the palate the Vignes Franches the freshness already so obvious in the bouquet, which here comes not only from the juicy and slightly acidic fruit, but not least from the minerality of the barren, stony and chalky soil. The Pinot Noir is punchy with superbly integrated acidity and delicious tannin, helped by the excellent wood. This is a Beaune 1er Cru of great finesse and gourmandise with great potential.
