Nose
The nose of the 2016 Basarin by Sottimano is shimmering like hot air in summer on the horizon above the asphalt. With subtle reductive notes reminiscent of the best Pinots, cherries, tea and thyme open in a triad, followed by spicy notes of juniper, black pepper, cardamom and bay. Ethereally overbuilt by wormwood, tobacco and blood orange peel, the sensational vintage laces all aromas to a complex powerhouse with earthy dense aromatics.
Mouth
The tight yet silky tannin builds subtle pressure on the palate. Grown in Neive on the border to Treiso with a southwestern orientation, the Basarin glides over the palate like a Hoovercraft, the very fine acidity vibrating like an electric eel. The polished tannin seems classier than a teak closet wall, underpinned with dense, extract-rich fruit. Everything seems to be in the right place and yet so delightfully unstrained and effortless. Great gustatory cinema in Cinemascope with a lascivious finish. Directors Cut. With bonus material.
