Muted garnet red with purple reflections and delicate lightening towards the rim.

It flows powerfully out of the glass. The 2017 Barolo Mosconi from Chiara Boschis & E. Pira & Figli immediately takes you over. Tobacco, wood smoke, cinnamon, cardamom and freshly ground black pepper combine with wild raspberries, black cherries, dates and figs. Noble bitter chocolate, liquorice and hints of Assam tea give it additional depth. Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme give this brilliant drop a refreshing touch.

Attack on the palate a lot of dark fruit, the fruit notes of the nose are increasingly joined by blackberries, plums and sloe, wrapped in ripe and at the same time youthful tannin and an extremely invigorating acidity. A very coherent Barolo, which has a fantastic aging potential and will unfold its full splendor with a little patience and cellar ripeness.

If you want to taste this wine in its youthful stage, decant it at least two to three hours beforehand and serve it in a large Burgundy glass.

Food recommendations by Christina Hilker

  • Pizzette with figs, green asparagus and taleggio
  • Beef roll stuffed with morels and celery in Barolo sauce
  • Wild boar ragout with mostarda and polenta
