Info about the wine

The grapes come from a variety of sites throughout the Barolo area. Average age of the vines ten to 45 years. Calcareous marl soils, with different proportions of limestone and clay depending on the site.

Info about the expansion

The grapes, harvested by hand on 4 October, were completely destemmed and went into the stainless steel fermentation tank for a short cold maceration. Alcoholic fermentation with regular pumping over of the must. Towards the end, the marc cap was submerged, beginning the post-fermentative maceration phase. In total, the wine was in contact with the must for about four weeks. Malolactic fermentation in used barriques, after which the wine was aged in large wooden barrels for about 30 months. The wine was bottled unfiltered.

Color

Translucent purple with lightening towards the rim and clear brick red reflections.

Nose

The 2018 Barolo Castiglione by Vietti is a seducer as it is in the book, wonderful floral fragrance of rose petals and violets pairs with sour cherries, bright red berries, rosehip and plum. The intense scent of incense, tar and liquorice floats strikingly in the room and adds an erotic touch. Hints of nougat and sultanas enhance its charming aromatics. One is immediately captivated by this wine and desperately wants to taste it.

Palate

After sufficient aeration, it settles refreshingly and strikingly on the tongue, the acidity is present and gives it aristocratic coolness and freshness, the tannin structure is ripe and at the same time wonderfully embedded in the sweetish fruit. An extremely finesse-rich wine that seems to float, made for eternity, for dreaming and meditating and above all for the fantastic cuisine from Bella Italia!

The impatient are advised to decant it at least two hours before drinking and to combine it with rich and aromatic cuisine from a large glass.
