Nose
The Auxey-Duresses of Clos du Moulin aux Moines is slowly but surely emerging from its shadowy existence. The monopollage is directly adjacent to the renowned sites of the top vineyards. Equipped with a slight sharpness, it offers a white Burgundy from chalky soils as a prime example. It shows itself crystalline, pure and straightforward. The minerality literally jumps out at you on the nose. Absolutely puristic. It smells wonderfully of candied zest of lemons and oranges. Lemon tart, roasted pine and cashew nuts as well as a small dose of parsley deliver an unusual but in this form very exciting constellation of aromas. Only after 2-3 days it unfolds its full potential in the bottle. Young it should be enjoyed caraffed. And with a few years of bottle maturity, this wine can develop even further.
Palate
At the palate it follows seamlessly the impressions from before. Clear like an ice stream and so full of cool elegance. Dark attributes and earthy notes make it seem sublime. But above all it lives on clarity and precision. The acidity breaks through the subtle bacony framework. It bundles into a beam of distinct minerality. Focused like a laser. The mouthfeel is varied and drinking. In big gulps, you approach the finish. The nuances of lemon tart, nuts and caramelized zest come through very well. Also a little baked apple and marzipan show up in the finish.
