The history of Artadis goes back to a coopera[1]tive project. In 1985, several producers joined forces who were of the opinion that it was possible to produce top wines in the region without extremely long barrel ageing. Under the leadership of Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, they succeeded in refining this process over the decades and achieved considerable success. In 2016, the company decided to leave the DOCa Rioja because its philosophy differed too much from the rest of the appellation[1]. Even today, Artadi does not produce wines of the Reserva and Gran Reserva levels. Nevertheless, discreet use of wood is not dispensed with, but without masking the terroir.
