Wine details

The wine visited is an impressive 100% Carignan - grown in the picturesque Torroja del Priorat region from vines that stand out for their remarkable age of 90 years. The wine has its roots at an altitude of 350-400 metres on soils of black slate and granite. Refined by whole cluster pressing, it unfolds to its full glory through fermentation and ageing in cement tanks.

Appearance

The wine's dark purple glows with undeniable violet reflections that enhance its already captivating presence.

Bouquet

The Arbossar from the 2019 vintage is a true feast for the senses, led by a refreshing aroma of dark fruits, floral notes reminiscent of violets, cassis leaves and beetroot. Aromas of elderberries, sour cherries and sloes dominate, underlined by distinctive notes of rosemary, juniper and candied black olives. Supported by the characteristic Licorella slate and an adapted use of wood, this Cariñena shows a youthful energy and potential that will surely mature in the years to come.

Taste

The wine unfolds powerfully on the palate, with an abundance of fruit and herbal spice. The still youthful tannins appear fine-grained, and provide an experience as if one were directly feeling the black slate soils on the tongue, combined with a salty minerality. It is hard to escape the feeling of being transported directly to the rugged and impressively beautiful landscape of the Priorat. What is particularly fascinating, however, is the surprising smoothness that reveals itself after sufficient aeration and ends in a pleasantly demanding finish. A true gem that can certainly age for decades to come, revealing elegance and Burgundian finesse in a few years.

If you can't wait and want to enjoy this excellent wine now, I recommend decanting it and serving it in a large glass.

Food recommendations

Try this wine with crispy tartelette with chanterelles, figs and salty pine nuts or with glazed beetroot pieces accompanied by smoked venison ham and fresh oregano. Another excellent composition would be a rack of lamb au gratin with black olive breadcrumbs and a rosemary jus.
