When Jean-Louis and Andrée, a native of Alsace, married, the Alsace vineyards and the branch in Riquewihr came into the marriage. Thus, the Domaine Trapet was born out of the Domaine of Jean-Pierre and Hélène Graye and since then offers the Trapets the rare opportunity to work with two different historical terroirs.

Tasting note from from 14.05.2021, Copyright Sebastian Bordthäuser

The Trapet family has been making wine in Gevrey-Chambertin for six generations. Jean-Louis Trapet took over the reins of the estate from his father in 1992 and took it to new heights in terms of quality. In order to achieve the greatest possible expression of the origin, the yields were reduced and the cultivation was changed. Since 1997, Trapet has been cultivating vines on 14 hectares according to biodynamic guidelines, and in the cellar, too, fining and filtration are renounced. The domaine owns vineyards in the best Grand and Premier Crus in Gevrey-Chambertin.

When Jean-Louis and Andrée, who was born in Alsace, got married, the Alsace vineyards and the branch in Riquewihr were part of the marriage. As Andrée is a winemaker's daughter who is also attached to the soil of her home country, there was no either-or, but only a both-and. Thus, the Domaine Trapet was created out of the Domaine of Jean-Pierre and Hélène Graye and since then offers the Trapets the rare possibility to work with two different historical terroirs. The areas are also cultivated according to biodynamic guidelines.

Color

Transparent and bright ruby red, radiant and clear.

Nose

The nose of the 2019 Ambre Rouge Pinots Macere from Domaine Trapet is bursting with red fruits: redcurrant, wild strawberries, cherries and rose hips take over the fruity part, complemented by subtle spicy notes. Mace, sandalwood and white pepper outline the fruity appearance with a pointed pen.

Mouth

With juicy fruit and fine fruit sweetness rarely found in French reds, it shines on the palate with juice and power. Joyful and sloppy, it is lined with small-part tannin at the edge of the tongue and complemented by animating phenolic. Fruity and uncomplicated in the best sense, it reflects the red fruit of the Pinot and is best enjoyed slightly chilled.
