Tasting note from dated 20.12.2020, Copyright André Dominé

Previously labelled BR, this is a single-varietal Barbarossa planted by Antoine Abbatucci in the 1960s. A moody pink variety that doesn't appreciate too much heat and reacts to too much wetness with excessive growth. So Jean-Charles vinifies it only in the years that are ideal for it, following exactly the same pattern as Diplomate and Général. Production 1500 bottles. Very intense and complex bouquet of white and yellow flowers, peaches, citrus fruits and subtle smoky notes. At the palate full and powerful, but with refined freshness, fine bitter tones and mineral accent.

Color

Bright radiant straw gold

Nose

Jean-Charles Abbatucci presses this dry white wine full of character from the pink-colored, very rare grape variety Barbarossa and thus sets a monument to it. The blossom aromas of youth have now given way to the scent of a multitude of sour apples, with which a hearty rural freshness immediately penetrates the nose. Green herbs, yellow gooseberries and peaches, poached pears with a slight cinnamon accent and grilled pineapple, followed by pomelo and subtle notes of smoke and oriental spices.

Taste

Very fresh, at the same time salty approach with a fine-grained texture, a lot of power, roundness and the melting of a warm vintage. Acidic fruit, ripe apples, a hint of honey, but then lemon and orange zest with their fine bitter tones, before the minerality emerges with notes of earth and flint as well as iodine that makes you think of the nearby sea.

The freshness extends further into the long finish with its mineral, subtly salty accent.
